The Rev. Peter JB Carman
The pastor of Emmanuel Friedens Church is Rev. Peter JB Carman, who came to Schenectady in 2014 from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he was pastor of the Olin T. Binkley Memorial Baptist Church. Prior to that he served as pastor of the Lake Avenue Baptist Church in Rochester, New York for many years.
An ordained American Baptist minister, Peter spent much of his childhood in India. He is a graduate of Haverford College and Yale Divinity School.
Peter currently serves on the Steering Committee for Schenectady Community Ministries as president. Locally he has also been very involved with efforts to secure fair aid funding from New York state for the city school district of Schenectady. He recently served two terms on the Board of Directors of the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America, an organization that brings people together from the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico to witness to Christ's "Peace rooted in Justice".
In his spare time, Peter enjoys playing guitar and singing; drinking coffee with friends; or occasional travel to far off places. He also enjoys writing: songs, hymns, sermons and essays.
Peter is married to the Rev. Lynn Carman Bodden, a minister of the United Church of Christ specializing in intentional interim ministry. They live in a very old house in Schenectady's Stockade, not far from the church. Peter and Lynn are the parents of grown children: Luke, married to Andi, and Benjamin. All three are engaged in urban education.
Maria Puccio is the Office Administrator for our church office and is the glue that holds everything together. She is highly skilled in organization and management and joined our staff in 2009. A graduate of Russell Sage College, she worked in the pharmaceutical industry for over 20 years. Maria resides with her daughter, Natalie and their dog, Rosie in Niskayuna. Natalie, is currently attending SUNY Brockport where she plans on receiving a degree in elementary education. Maria enjoys listening to music (especially jazz) classical and classical rock, playing tennis, traveling, hiking and skiing.
David Snyder is our custodian, joining us in 2006. He has the huge responsibility of keeping our massive physical plant in tip-top shape for the many church and community events that happen within our walls each week. He resides in Schenectady where he also works at Union College. When not at work, Dave loves watching sports and relaxing on the beach.
